I'm an Australian sql dba with experience in the issue you mention. I would be checking quickly the install of sql and especially any errors that are logged . I doubt that its Kerberos as you'll need to bounce through a few other servers to get there , Clean install making it not work makes me want to check the configuration of the running machine.
