synonym parser
Web application that displays a randomly generated word from database and displays it. Users can enter one or more words to describe it (synonyms) on 3 different, but very similar versions of the page (client requested it that way). Looks amazingly simple to users, but has relatively complex coding behind it. Many string operations have to be done before the word can be stored, such as checking if it already exists, that it doesnt contain unnecessary whitespaces or numbers ... Making sure that all words are stored with first letter being uppercase (german language) ... A lot of additional security checks, such as mysql_real_escape_string() and performance optimized queries. Only uses html & php with a little bit of javascript, since client wanted a relatively simple site for statistical purpose, done as fast as possible.
