As a graduate of the University of Florida, Cody's education in marketing has enabled him to control his own career path as he explores new opportunities. His experience includes five years of online auction experience on eBay, including the operation of an eBay Store. In between these activities, he also engaged in some freelance web design and some software tools for teachers, such as a report card automater that could pull averages and letter grades from an Excel grade book and generate the report card in Word without having to toggle between programs. All of these other activities pale in comparison to the energy Cody has spent building Missionary Records, a new independent record label that focuses its distribution efforts in the digital channels that the Internet allows. Nearly eight years in the planning, development, and execution, Missionary Records opened for business in October 2006 with the release of Bumper Stickers and Dreams, which Cody recorded and released under the name Cody Blane. Almost immediately, the Missionary Records web site needed a drastic update to accommodate all of the community components that its marketing plan called for. Instead of hiring someone to build the new site, Cody spent months learning the open source content management system that he would soon use to do the job himself. It became clear once the site was launched that the experience of learning the system could pay off by offering a combination service of web design and hands-on training to set clients up with dynamic, interactive sites that they could update themselves without having to pay additional money or be locked into a hosting arrangement with their web designer.
