63xc.com logo
This is the design which you're most likely to have seen. 63xc.com was a mountainbike site active for much of the last decade. The name related to technical aspects of gearing and to the 'xc' or cross-country division of the sport. I treated the lettering as an abstract and applied various perspective operations to give the impression of a compass rose. The logo was used successfully for five years and appeared on a range of T-shirts. It was redrawn around 2005 to accommodate improved monitor resolutions: this is the earlier version, which I prefer.

There's an octopus on my profile because I don't want you to connect my work on Freelancer.com with my presence on other sites. It's pretty hard to be anonymous on the Web these days. If you really want to, you can find me PDQ. But I hope that you'll take a moment to understand why I run Niftygraphics as a separate business entity. I have a serious degree in English and a bunch of experience as a writer, and that's how I make my living. But I also worked around the design industry for years as a freelancer, trainer, and for quite a while as a systems manager. The last of those was at a really massive London design consultancy. Years after its spectacular crash, I still miss the place. It gave me a chance to hang out with world-class designers and to work with huge clients. I learned to wrangle CAD systems and do my own pre-press, and I got into a bunch of other tech stuff I'd never have got into otherwise. I also learned the importance of play. I don't do very much design these days, but it's on a higher level than the work I used to do. That's partly because I got my chops together, and partly because I try to only do stuff that I enjoy. Niftygraphics is an experiment in making money from purely creative work. I like to make money, but not as much as I like making nice logos. I favour bright colours and abstracted lettershapes.
