Jakarta Toys Fair
There comes a time in most people's lives when they put away the toys and leave their childhood imaginary world behind. Not so for enthusiasts setting up at Balai Kartini this weekend for The Jakarta 8th Toys & Comics Fair. The event expects to draw crowds of up to 18,000 people, mostly aged between 15 and 40. The two-day fair is the biggest event of the year for Jakarta's toy and comic-lovers -- and it grows by the year. This year's show promises something for everyone in the geek community, from cosplay performances to Lego displays, reptile-breeding competitions, toy auctions, carnival games and lots of shopping. Riza Satyagraha, from Sacca Production, the team behind the event, says that students and young executives have made up the bulk of visitors in previous years, with children accounting for just 10 percent of last year's crowd of 16,000.
