Maslow's Emergency Food Closet
Allison Nichols and I orgaized a pilot study with the backing from Psi Beta for a food bank for college students on Mesa Communit College Campus. This pilot study reviewed demographics of hunger, college expenses and survival needs of students based on a current trend at major universities across the nation. The project took place in the spring of 2012, lasting 1 month exactly. Allison conducted surveys o campus gauging the need and use of the food bank, contributed to inventory and distribution processes. I wrote the policies and procedures for distribution, handling and advertising. The food drive took place on campus for two weeks and yielded over 676 pieces of food. We distributed 36 boxes of food. The pilot study was turned over to the Center for Service Learning, current school administrators are reviewing the study for permanent placement.
