House the World - Conceptual Design
House the World is a not-for-profit organization looking to provide low cost rapidly deploy-able housing solutions for disaster relief based on a shipping container shell. I provided design services for two prototype modules. The first a single relief shelter with sleeping for 4, a bathroom, kitchen and seating area. This first design is meant for temporary shelter only and can be deployed as needed and then picked up and shipped to a new destination. The second design is a hybrid structure, shipping container and earth bag home meant for permanent residence. With two bedrooms, a bathroom, full kitchen and living/dining area, these homes can be site built using local materials and relatively unskilled labor to provide permanent structures at very low cost.
