Located within the historic Fortezza da Basso in the city of Florence, the Fashion Terminal proposal for the city conforms to historic regulations, while endeavoring to give a coherent response to the program and the environment. The variety of the urban conditions designed, from the very beginning, reflected in the concept of the building and the organization of spaces. The elevated runways meant to “break through” the historically private Fortezza walls, giving its inner space back to the people. At the same time the corridors are directed at the alluring sites that Florence has to offer, making the experience within them distinctly Florentine. The Florence and the Da Basso – united.
