My name is Shawnie Kelley-Foy and I am an experienced travel and history writer with a few books under my belt. My deep-rooted love for art and history stems back to my childhood, much of which was spent in museums. I’ve had the privilege of working several years for Historic Scotland and English Heritage doing architectural and historical research on castles, abbeys and medieval sculpture. Having traveled extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia, North America and the Caribbean, and having lived in Scotland, England and France, I’ve accumulated a personal photo-archive of more than 12,000 images. Many of my photos have been featured on CNN, Octopus Travel and Rubble 'n' Ruin Web sites. It’s tough to say which one is my true alma mater from among the four schools at which I’ve studied: Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh); The Ohio State University (Columbus); University of Edinburgh (Scotland); and the University of Nice (France). While most of my early writing was academic in style, I’ve transitioned into mainstream travel and history writing during the past four years. My books titled, Insiders’ Guide to Columbus and It Happened on Cape Cod were released in early 2006. I am currently finishing the Insiders’ Guide to Cleveland and It Happened in Ohio, due to be published later this year. Not only have I written these comprehensive travel guides and collections of short stories, but I have also contributed articles to museum exhibition catalgoues, tourist attraction guide books and have written a variety of short restaurant, pub, parks and museum reviews. When I’m not writing, I teach popular architecture-, art- and travel-based classes at Upper Arlington’s Department of Lifelong Learning. I am looking for short term writing projects to keep me busy in between long-term projects.
