CLIENT University Of Nairobi SITE Current parking lot in Nairobi university main campus bordered by university way slip road, Jomo Kenyatta Memorial library, Hyslop building, science lecture theatre and SONU offices BRIEF Design an iconic sustainable auditorium building with a seating capacity of 750 DESIGN SOLUTION CONCEPT Form is a ship's hull leading the journey towards new frontiers Forward and upwards movement towards new frontiers i.e. academics, technology and sustainable design SUSTAINABILITY Thermoregulation -moist bricks under seat racking to ensure interior of auditorium building cools naturally Ventilation -air extractors/ventilation cowls extract hot air from interior ensuring auditorium is ventilated naturally Lighting -solar panels on the roof of auditorium provide electric energy to power light fixtures Audio & visual connection - Seat raking allows for audio and visual connection without the need for powered speakers Accessibility
