Design for a 2-bedroom round, grass thatched house
Dear Sir, I have proposed 2 separate building for this round earth house as per the contest brief . The first main building is a 2 bedroom + 2 bathroom house approximately 1060 sf. The main entrance of this house is facing East. The house is naturally ventilated with an addition of Jack roof. there is a living room, dining room, kitchen and utility designed for this building. Next to this main building towards the right-hand side a small 1 bedroom house is designed. Car porch is designed at ground level. At the upper level there is a guest room, balcony bathroom and utility room. Total rea of this house is 845 sf. Both the houses is connected with a covered walkway or pergola. Solar power can be proposed for this guest house. This proposal also caters for small biogas section. proposed construction cost is USD 40/sf (at approximately USD 76,200 for buildings). solar panels and biogas system will be costed separately. Dear sir,
1. Based on my project experience, it cost more to built the car porch underground. There will be additional cost for earthworks and reinforced concrete retaining wall. What I have proposed is car park on ground with direct entry. Suggest car park to be at ground level and not basement.
2. My intention was to serve both building with shorted pipe runs from the buildings to the biogas chamber. However, this can be explored further to accommodate your thoughts.
3. Main door facing direct to gate can be explored further. I will need more time to amend and submit. The deadline for the contest is today. I will need another 2 to 3 days to amend and submit.
4. Please note, I will need to adjust the construction cost based on African construction Guid – The proposed cost per square meter for this building is approximately R 4000- R 5000 per square meter.

1. Can the car porch be underground? Would it be less costly then?
2. I wish the biogas to be behind the main house
3. I wish the main door of the main house to directly face the gate. Can the one-bedroom then be further away from the line of the main gate?- 3 tahun yang lalu
