HalloGREEN: The Great Candy Collection

Join us in getting all that sugar out of your children's hands and into the hands of our troops to show our appreciation! It's a WIN/ WIN!

When: Donations accepted at your school November 2-4 from morning carpool to afternoon carpool. Please come in the school to hand over donations and do not hand to carpool teachers in order to keep carpool moving unless otherwise noted.

Optional: $1-10 donations are accepted to help pay for shipping, supplies and transport. Any additional funds will go toward gardens for schools through the Healthy Green Schools program.

How you can help! We are looking for 1-4 parent volunteers to help with sorting and boxing the candy. Please contact your school to help!

Interesting Fact: Do you know how much sugar your child should get each day?

The American Heart Association has put into place guidelines for the limits of added sugar. The amount of added sugar that a child should consume on a daily basis depends on the child's age and caloric intake:

Preschoolers averaging 1,200 to 1,400 calories per day should limit added sugar to about 4 teaspoons (16 grams) per day.
Children ages 4 to 8 who average 1,600 calories per day should limit added sugar to about 3 teaspoons (12 grams) a day. To fit in all the nutritional requirements for this age group, there are fewer calories available for added sugar.
Pre-teen and teens averaging 1,800 to 2,000 calories per day should not have more than 5 to 8 teaspoons (20 to 32 grams) of added sugar per day.

Parent challenge: For one week count the amount of sugar in every food they eat outside of whole fruit and note his or her daily average!
