Background for project. One of the characteristics of a modern quilt is the use of negative space. I have spent a little more than a year collecting 37 different fabrics in a Mid Century Modern color pallet to use in this quilt. Each fabric corresponds to a letter, punctuation mark or space in Shakespeare’s sonnet 116. I will use the same fabric for all of the spaces, another fabric for all of them A’s, another fabric for all of the B’s, etc. The result will be a scrappy looking but modern, with a hidden code.
