Failure Investigation of a Bypass Elbow Tube for the CO2 Pipeline in Urea Plant

Failure investigation was carried out on a cracked carbon steel bypass tube with 1" diameter for the CO2 pipeline in a urea plant. The crack was observed by visual and dye penetrant inspections. The main crack was on elbow's inner curvature with 14mm length parallel to the tube axis. The cracks started from the inner surface towards to the outer surface.

Failure analysis of 316L stainless steel seamless tube

Gas leak was observed in the 316L tubes used for the transportation of natural gas in the power station. Tubes located in an open area near the quarries that produce lots of dust. A detailed failure analysis was conducted on the tube to determine the mode and the root cause of the failure. The analysis included both optical and scanning electron microscopy of the inner and outer surfaces of the tube as well as characterization of the corrosion products using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy

In this study, the influence of welding conditions of both laser beam welding (LBW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) as a comparative study on the weld joint microstructures, hardness distribution and fatigue properties cross the butt-welded joints of dual phase (DP) steel and mild steel are investigated.

The effect of welding atmosphere on the pitting corrosion of AISI 304L resistance spot welds

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology
The research deals with the effect of shielding gas atmosphere on the pitting corrosion behavior of AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel weld joints. Optical and SEM investigations show several types of pit sizes and morphologies depending on heat input and shielding gas. CPP of welded nuggets shows that argon gas is more effective in the improvement of pitting corrosion resistance at low heat input, while nitrogen demonstrates better corrosion resistance at high heat input.
