Just starting off – with autism
She’s a young mom just starting off. Her first child was a girl her second a little boy.
“Why all the tests? We never had to do these before.”
” We are trying to determine if…”
” Determine what? What is wrong??”
How many hallways have heard the echoes of these words, the panic, and the uncertainty?
What can we do for this young mom? Should we just tell her to toughen up- your child has autism? Raising a special needs child can take its toll. One day a young, distraught mom hung herself on her child’s therapy equipment. Unfortunately,no one knew she was at the end.
At the End
Have you ever been at the end of yourself? Have you ever had a child who needed you every minute of the day for years? Have you had to juggle your family’s needs with the full time needs of an autistic child?
I worked for years in a group home for children. These children were there because the families could not take care of a child with special needs and take care of their other family members. They all agreed it was just too hard. Parents who are making the choice to raise their autistic children are heroes.
Autism Awareness
This is National Autism Awareness Month. Please look for ways to help families in your community. There are so many ways you can help. Be part of the support system that a family needs.

How did Social Media Networking Pull You In?
What got you in to Social Media Networking? Was it the prospect of getting a million followers? Was it the potential of increasing your readers on your blog? Were you looking to market those 10,000 widgets sitting on the shelf?
I would love to say I entered Social Media Networking just to meet great people. I researched to see what it could do to promote my non-profit organization and my writing career. There was no magical manual or single place to amass information. I kept reading, clicking, disseminating information, and joining new groups.
The unexpected:
Here’s what I keep hearing which I believe many people didn’t expect. People in Social Media networking are forming communities and friendships. People are reading my work and giving me great input. I’m helping a poet get his website up and going. A friend of mine is writing a review on my book. As a result of social media networking, I just helped form a non-profit for kids with special needs. I’m going to conferences; meeting up with people I have been working with on-line.
Most important:
Why are we here anyway? We make money but why? Isn’t it to live? Who do we live for or with? PEOPLE! Social Media Networking is about people meeting people. Social Media Networking is the conduit for people working together internationally. It’s Social Media Networking that will keep structure as businesses forge relationships to work together from a global perspective.
