I would like to hire a Programmer

Need a tutor to help me figure something out. I want to re-create a small part of a gui interface for an open source project in order to customize it for my needs. I am not an official developer for this project, but if I am successful in implementing this idea, I will contribute it to their source code. This project uses the Swing framework in Eclipse. The program is written primarily in Java, but has some Javascript, bash scripting, etc. As I have mostly worked in javascript, I have never used this framework or IDE. The program is huge, but the part that I want to change seems to use key-value pairs to pass into another script. I cannot figure out how the key-value pairs are turned into parameters which are passed into a function, and where that function is located. I am seeking someone who can find how this code is implemented and explain to me with an example how to change the location of the button the user clicks to implement the code. I know how to make the buttons, but I can't figure out how the ones in the project are being utilized and how the code calls the scripts. I need someone to explain this to me. If you have eclipse running, I can send you a zip file with the source code and a more detailed explanation of what I am doing.
