Laterally coupled diode lasers are two semiconductor lasers sitting side by side. These lasers would be considered as independent from each other, if the gap between them was not close enough so there is optical coupling between lasers. These coupled lasers have a specific dynamic behaviour determined by their coupling. In this project the student will develop a simulation tool to predict the performances of the laterally coupled diode lasers, and to compare their performances to a single laser in order to optimize their design and to enhance their performances

Hi, This is related to optical communication and convex/concave optimization. The gap creates mismatch leading to a reflection coefficient. specifically for optical fibers with laser diodes, I am aware of the equation. the optimization is the hard problem if it isn't convex.
