Fetch a fast changing external API and save to db

We want to fetch an external API (in JSON/XML) and save the data into a db. There will be <2000 records for each fetch, we assume such fetch will be executed in cronjob per min. And, we will create our own API accessing this bigdata db in the near future. Please PROPOSE the best solution of such data fetching. Using Node.js/python and mongodb OR just simple PHP / MySQL ? We consider this is only a very simple and can complete within very short period of time. Please propose your best offer, we are looking for long term developer.
