I am in need of an experienced smartphone (iPhone/Android to start with) developer that also has experience/knowledge of the ogg/vorbis audio format and some simple web/http experience.
I run an Internet radio station called SoCoRock, which focuses on the local rock music scene in my area (Sonoma County, California, USA). We stream recorded tracks from local artists, as well as pre-recorded concerts. We also stream live on location.
SoCoRock runs on the open source Icecast streaming server and Savonet Liquidsoap stream generator. I have chosen the ogg/vorbis format because of its superior audio quality, flexibility and the fact that it is 100% open source. Currently our website has a flash player (ffmp3 - [login to view URL] ) that streams directly via Icecast, as well as a direct link for other media players that can process the .ogg format. An existing Android app, XiiaLive, contains some core functionality to stream but is lacking functionality I would like to have that is specific to our business model.
An Android and iPhone app is the next step in my vision for bringing our local music scene more exposure via our site/web radio stream. This will include not only functionality to stream our own Icecast mountpoint, but other live mountpoints from other locations, as well as dynamically display things based on what is playing (metadata is present in all streams which describe artist and track title/venue name) - such as artist links and venue coupon graphics (which would be downloaded from a repository on a central Internet server that we control).
Chosen developer will be required to produce these applications for both iPhone and Android, as well as maintain them for bug fixes, feature requests and the like.
As part of the development I would like an open source (GPL v3) version of the Android app that simply contains the core ogg vorbis streaming functionality and the core of the UI. I want to give back to the open source community by providing the best ogg/vorbis Android streamer available since I am building this business model almost entirely on existing open source software.
I am very music oriented and I am hoping a developer that becomes part of this project is as well. The same goes for open source - please be open source oriented.
