Hi there. I would think that the only way to ensure that the barcode is valid is to have the data in the barcode encoded with a unique number. When I say number I don't just mean numerals. Also sequential numbering isnt going to work as its easily guessable. The encoded data must be pre generated and should be able to lookup when scanning. But hey... I have lots of ideas. After that we can define a secret rule for how a barcode should be valid. Works with smartphone. 50$. If you need more, huge security, for 80$ I can use a VBA macro generating 2D QR Codes, with an encryption like the one used in crypto currencies (big numbers with asymmetrical coding : easy to check, hard to crack). Private keys and public keys. Barcodes are huge afterwards.
