Critique and analysis of a website - creatively rethink the web presence of an Australian company including design and business functionality.
Scenario
You are an e-marketing consultant and you have been commissioned by a company to review their website (to discuss once awarded) and make recommendations for its improvement. A central part of the review is the development of a comprehensive online marketing strategy and promotions campaign designed to increase traffic/sales. Please do not contact the company directly but prepare the report based upon information already available in the public domain. (eg Website, annual reports, trade magazine write-ups, newspaper/magazine/current affairs articles, product blogs.)
You are to present this as a business report.
In reviewing your site remember to apply the seven steps of an e-marketing plan and to consider some of the following:
Company
1. What sort of business is it?
2. Who are its competitors?
3. How are they different/the same as competitors?
4. What services/products are available from this company?
5. What do you think is the business strategy of the company?
6. What promotion activities are available through this site? (newsletters)
Website
1. What does the site currently look like? (Colours/branding/logo/slogan/links.)
2. Make an assessment on the design and information architecture of the site based upon the best practice/standards of site development.
3. What sort of business model do you think they have? Distribution channels.
4. How does the site draw traffic?
5. What social media campaigns do they have to build customer loyalty? How do you think this is a part of client relationship management?
6. Can you tell what clients think about this product from the site?
7. Do you think the site is compliant with disabled (sight-impaired) protocols?
Technical and Legal Considerations
8. What are some of the technical considerations the company would need to consider in implementing your proposals for web site redevelopment and promotional campaigns? Database management. Spam, platforms, hosting, client management systems.
9. What sort of legal/commercial considerations would also impact any suggestions you make for improving the commercial viability of the site and implementing promotional campaigns? Privacy Issues. Remember to consider impact of laws in different jurisdictions.
10. Site traffic, site diagnostics.
11. Links to relevant sites.
Objectives:
1. demonstration of balanced, authoritive research, with appropriate referencing
2. demonstration of critical analysis
3. clear concise writing skills
4. knowledge of key concepts, theories and approaches from lectures and readings.
5. appropriate report structure - including a table of contents and reference list
