automatic plant watering

I want to automate the waterig of my plants using an Arduino nano and a 6v pump 1. The Arduino nano, working off a 9v battery gets a soil humidity reading from a sensor (sensor description below) 2. Once the reading of that sensor goes bellow a certain value (to be determined later) the arduno activates a pump that circulates water to the plants until the sensor reaches another value (to be determined later): X<Motor on<Y 3. When a button is pressed, an RGB LED indicates the status of the 9v battery (Green= full ; Red= replace) 4. A water sensor (same as the soil sensor) activates the Blue LED if the water level is too low The most important part is to conserve as much power as possible so that the 9v does not run out too often (possibly have the arduino go into sleep mode and only check for moisture level once every day) The system has to be as small as possible so I prefer not using a motor driver except if it is small or can easily be fabricated.
