OK, very interesting, as I did work with a number of tree controls (usually I try to make tooling that's an editor or needs to deal with large trees) in the direction of an "outliner" (outline processor). So I'm wondering about the persistence you want, is it sufficient to use JavaScript's/browser's localStorage (or even just sessionStorage?), or as $_SESSION is mentioned, some server-side (PHP) persistence + loading? With the former, it wouldn't survive a hard refresh (or clear-cache) of the user's browser, but is that fine or a desired feature? You also have jQuery/Prototype in your required skills tag list, but seems to me there's no jQuery/Prototype involved here, right? Starting with a slightly higher price, not knowing if a server-side backend might be needed.
