Deadline: 2 weeks
Business name: Sociable Weaver Foundation. We are looking for logo to represent the foundation on printed materials and letterhead.
We don't have a website, this is a small family charitable foundation, we give grants to nonprofit organizations in the Louisville, KY area. We give to many different types of nonprofit organizations, with a focus on environmental programs, early childhood development and the arts.
A sociable weaver is a bird primarily in South Africa, I believe. They are particularly interesting because they live with and support their entire community, not just their mate. So instead of building a nest for two birds, they build entire communities, like apartment buildings. I think the nests are made of straw, they look almost like hives, very intricate, lots of nests merged together. It is the community aspect of this bird that inspired the family to name the foundation after it. A quick google search will show you lots of images and info.
Logo will primarily be used for the foundation letterhead and will also be used by nonprofit orgs when they want to recognize their donors, so if they have a sign or a plaque that says a project was supported by.... and it might show the Sociable Weaver Foundation name and/or the logo.
I have included a painting of sociable weavers that we love. The logo might incorporate the nest and the bird to distinguish it from other birds? We don't want anything too literal, an artist friend who did a sketch for us really tried to create an exact likeness of the bird, I don't think that is what we want. I don't want to limit your creativity, but one thought about what she likes about painting is probably the movement.
Regarding fonts/colors, we are open to any/all colors. I think we are open to any font as well. The foundation used to be called the Augusta Brown Holland Foundation, I attached the logo for that name so you can have a feel for what we have used in the past. I think we are drawn to logos that are a little more on the feminine side. The organization’s mission is to help people, improve the community, etc. So again, I think that is part of why that literal drawing that we got did not work, looking for something a bit softer.
