Search Bar Like Google with results being displayed as typing

Hi , I have tried creating a search bar like this using asp and javascript but find that although sometimes the results are ok in speed most the time it is not displaying instant results but is leaving a pause , obviously the person has already typed the next letters by this time... I understand that Ajax runs instant like google , amazon etc ...
