This project involves configuring a Linux (Ubuntu 6.06) server for Linux Volume Manager use and developing a set of commands to backup and restore via LVM snapshot logical volume which is running a MySQL database. The server has been set up with an unconfigured 500 GB disk and you will be given root access to. Steps required (as I see them): 1) Configure the disk into 4 x 125 GB PEs 2) Configure a filesystem F on one of the PEs 3) Create command to snapshot F to somewhere (another of the PEs, presumably) 4) Command to put the snapshot into a TAR-type file for FTPing 5) Create command sequence to restore F from the tar file. This is a test server so there is no problem rebooting it, etc... The job will be considered complete when the set of commands are delivered and have been successfully performed by our staff on another server with an identical configuration.
